Mary Alice Backschmidt

November 25, 1915 — May 10, 2006

Bachschmidt, Mary Alice (Greaser) age 90, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bachschmidt was a long time member of Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church, Townsend and a native daughter of that community. She returned to Townsend in 1973 after having lived in New Jersey, Oak Ridge, and Florida for many years. Preceded in death by: Husband, Herman F. Bachschmidt; Parents, Homer Ellsworth Greaser and Sarah Alice (Burns) Greaser; Brothers, Charles Ellsworth Greaser and Ralph William Greaser all of Blount County. Survivors include: Son and Daughter-in-law, Frederick C. & Peggy Bachschmidt of Knoxville, TN; Daughter and Son-in-law, Carol A. & Allan Tompkins of Greenback; Grandson, John Dean Grubbs & wife Stephanie of Maryville; Sisters, Helen Dunn and Winifred Daffron both of Maryville; numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Alice leaves behind many friends, especially in the Townsend area and at Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be at 7:30 PM, Friday, May 12, 2006 in the West Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Ken Abbott officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Bethel Cemetery for the interment. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church, 7322 Old Tuckaleechee Road, Townsend, TN 37882. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM, Friday, May 12, 2006, West Chapel, Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
