Marvin Lewis Pharris age 65 of Greenback departed this life on Friday, January 6, 2012 after an extended illness. Marvin gave many years to coaching little league baseball in both Alcoa and Morristown, and taught many young men the fundamentals of baseball and life. He was an avid show car fan and spent several years prior to his illness showing his own cars. Preceded in death by his son, James David Pharris; father, Alton Dee Pharris; brother, James Alton “Punk�? Pharris. Survivors include his wife, Jessica Pharris; son, Troy Dee Pharris and wife, Kathy; son, Christopher Shayne Pharris; step sons, Joshua Coker and wife, Mandy, and Jacob Coker and wife, Erin; grandchildren, Sean, Karli, and Kaleb Pharris and Chloe and Josie Coker; mother, Virgie Lee Pharris; sister, Tammie Oliver; sisters-in-law, Denise Martin and husband, Tim, and Patti Young and husband, Casey; mother of his children, Dowelene Pharris; niece and caregiver, Ami Anderson; the Raines family; and many aunts, uncles and cousins, several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to Wanda King, Jack Poplin, Caris Healthcare, and Home Health Care of East Tennessee and Hospice. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in the Smith West Chapel with Pastor Mike Justice officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2012 at Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 983-1000.
