Marion Vyvette Solt

October 3, 1932 — April 19, 2022

Marion Vyvette Solt died on April 19t, 2022. She was the youngest of Lois & Valentine Reed’s nine children, born on October 3, 1932, in Ironsburg, TN. She graduated from Hall High in Harlan, KY in 1951 as valedictorian of her class and went to secretarial school in Lexington, KY. She met Keith when they both worked at Kingsport Press, and they were married in 1954. The following year, they suffered the loss of their first baby, Martin; they later welcomed a son, Eric, and a daughter, Amy. They moved from Kingsport, TN to the Chicago suburbs in 1980 where they lived until retiring to Knoxville in 1999. They were blessed with many deep and lasting friendships along the way. Vyvette (aka Mimi) was a small woman with a big personality. She could be opinionated and stubborn, but she had a kind heart and generous spirit. She loved children more than anything and adored her grandchildren. She loved needlework and crafts and made mountains of Christmas cookies every year. She loved vacations at the beach and loved to bask in the sun. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers and plants and we’re told she could whack a softball when she was younger. She loved people and parties and talking and laughing and taking your dimes in a card game. She liked to dress well and have her nails and hair done. For the past 12 years, she slowly succumbed to Alzheimer’s, but always kept a sweet disposition and continued to see the beauty around her. Vyvette is survived by Keith, her husband of almost 68 years; her son Eric & his wife, Marva; her daughter, Amy; and her beloved grandchildren, Reed, Carmen, Morgan, Sullivan, Nick, & Jack; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Asbury’s Beech House for taking excellent care of Mimi over the last two years, and Blount Memorial Hospice for their tender care and support. The family will be having a private celebration of life. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
