Margaret Irons Nicely born June 30, 1924 to Raymond J. Irons and Mabel Coffman Irons, passed away at Fort Sanders Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. Margaret spent her childhood in Greenbriar County, West Virginia and often rode a pony to school. She excelled at piano in high school and attended Greenbriar College for Women in Lewisburg, WV. During World War II, Margaret worked at Ashford Army Hospital (Greenbriar Hotel) and Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. Following the war she lived in Texas, West Virginia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. While raising two children, Margaret worked part-time in bookkeeping and was always involved in her church. After moving to Blount County, Tennessee, she lived an active life working alongside her husband of 39 years, Glen Nicely, in various business ventures. Margaret enjoyed reading, traveling, playing card games, and doting on her six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Admired, loved, and respected by all who knew her well, Margaret will be sadly missed. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Nicely. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Susan Rollins of Lenoir City and their children Jennifer Thornton, Paige Presley, and Bryan Rollins; and her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Laura Coit of Alexandria,Virginia, and their children Ethan, Emily, and Elyse Coit; and her great-grandchildren, Andy and Quillen Thornton, and Everett Lusby and Lillian Rollins. Margaret's life will be honored on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Smith West Chapel (Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville). Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM with Dr. Jerry Russell officiating. The interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
