Margaret J. Compton age 83 of Greenback passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Margaret was the former co-owner of Greenback Slaughter House. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by family and friends. Preceded in death by husband, Rev. Clarence Compton; parents, George and Lucy Gibson; brothers, James and Robert Gibson; daughter, Margaret E. Sheperd Williams. Survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Charles William (Deanie) Compton of Jacksonville, FL, Richard D. (Elizabeth) Compton of Maryville, Dan E. Tipton of Loudon, James L. (Denise) Compton of Friendsville, Larry A. Tipton Sr. of Greenback; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol (J.R.) Carnes of Maryville, Carolyn McMahan and David Silvey of Greenback; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family; and special friend, Gary Moneymaker. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Jordan Davis officiating.
