Lois Coleman

Lois Lee Cochran Coleman was born on December 26th, 1919 in Calhoun, Georgia the daughter of Bessie and Luther Cochran. She passed away at her home in Maryville with family on August 30, 2012 at the age of almost 93. Lois was a well known figure in Blount County. She married James H. Coleman, Jr. "Bud" in 1942 and they were married for 65 years until Bud's death in 2006. Lois and Bud had four children, Dr. James H. Coleman and his wife Candace H. Coleman, Stephen L. Coleman and his wife Brenda Y. Coleman, David Coleman (who died at birth), and Amy E. Coleman Miranda and her husband Ralph J. Miranda. She had nine grandchildren Bonny Coleman Osterhage, Adam H. Coleman and wife Meredith and son Liam, Ginger E. Coleman, Cheryl Ogle and husband Trey and sons Parker and Carson, Stephen Y. Coleman (deceased), twins James W. Coleman (deceased) and John C. Coleman (deceased), Matthew L. Coleman and his wife Kristin and son Max, Joseph D. Miranda, Nathan J. Miranda, , and a number of nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Additionally, Lois had a sister-in-law Betty Coleman Draper wife of Duane (deceased) and she was the sister of Ruth Cochran Potter wife of Hugh, Clinton Cochran and wife Ruth, and Earl Cochran. Lois was active in the Maryville Church of Christ where she was a member since 1942. Lois taught Sunday School and was an Elder's wife for many years until Bud passed away. She was also on the Blount County School Board from 1976 until about 1989. She and Bud were honored by the Knoxville Christian School with The Christian Servants Award for Bud and The Virtuous Woman Award for Lois. The family would like to express their gratitude to Francis and all of the UT Hospice staff as well as Lois's wonderful caregivers including Betty Goforth, Sandy Provence, Theressa Bounds, Pati Cooke, Wendy Banks, Gwen Banks, Mourine Williams and Jolena Crowe. Lois will be laid to rest beside her husband in Grandview Cemetery following a graveside service on Saturday, September 1st. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Tennessee Medical Center Cancer Institute, 2121 Medical Center Way, Suite 110, Knoxville, TN 37920 in the memory of Stephen Y. Coleman. Graveside service and interment will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Grandview Cemetery with Minister Jonathan Jones officiating.
