Linda Sue Irwin age 69 went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 17, 2019 around 10:00 AM. After dealing with several illnesses for the last few years her active life was cut short by a sudden stroke. Linda worked at Maryville City Schools as a teacher and coach at John Sevier, then Fort Craig, and finally a principal of Sam Houston. For a short-time she worked for the State of Tennessee as the Career Ladder Evaluator. Her avid love of sports steered her to the Red Cross Summer Learn to Swim Program and coach of the Flying Dolphins Swim Team. Both these organizations led to many years of pure enjoyment in building the programs and watching the kids flourish. Her accomplishment as the highest performing Principal in Tennessee led to a career opportunity with the Niswonger Foundation in Greeneville, TN. In that role she touched schools all over upper East Tennessee and helped improve all aspects of education. Her life long work has impacted thousands of children. Linda leaves many friends in Maryville and Greeneville; of note her cousin Bobbie Nichols along with Linda Stroud, Melissa Babb, Meredith Stevans, Jann Mirkov, Kathy Knight and their families. They were true friends and loving caregivers in these last years. GFWC Greeneville Woman’s Club, Main Street Greeneville, and the Greene County Partnership are only a few of the valued groups Linda loved. She was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Dee Irwin; grandparents, Ralph and Bess Irwin, Lee and Anna Burns. She leaves behind her sister Janie Irwin along with a strong and loving army of cousins and close friends. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 PM Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral Service will follow at 2:30 PM with Rev. Doug Hayes officiating. Friends and family will proceed to Grandview Cemetery following the funeral service for a 3:00 pm interment service.
