Larry Segrest Ladd, age 78 of Maryville, TN stepped peacefully into the waiting arms of our loving Father on Monday, September 2, 2024. There to welcome him were his parents, F. B. and Rosa Ladd. Left to celebrate his life are his wife of 56 years, Lynn; sons Christopher of Roswell, GA, and Michael (Melissa) of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Jordan, Tori, Raegan, Sydney, Eliza, Juliet, and Simon Ladd. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Heritage Sunday School Class. After graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1969, he worked for J.C. Penny in Knoxville. After being transferred to Alcoa Midland Shopping Center, he went on to work in sales with Caterpillar, then owning two deli-cheese shops and World Spice Company for 20 years. After retiring he began volunteering in the community and traveling with Lynn. They traveled to many countries, but the United States was his favorite. He always worked tirelessly with every project that he undertook. He headed the committee to pass the restaurant referendum of the city of Maryville. He worked with local state representatives to have local elections moved and held in the same elections as the U.S. President and Tennessee Governor. After 9/11, he raised money for 400 books to be donated to Blount County Library in memory of each first responder killed in New York City. His longest volunteering project was working as a special projects director with the Community Food Connection of Blount County. He organized food drives, roasts of local leaders, and pot luck dinners for the volunteers. In October of 2020 at age 75, he undertook a “Walk for the Blue” for Maryville and Alcoa fire and police departments and Blount County Sheriff Department. He raised over $20,000.00 in gift cards for these departments because he saw a need for support at a crucial time. Thanks go to Larry’s friends for helping support our community. Larry was also an avid Vols fan and loved the Dodgers since their Brooklyn days. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 3:00 PM with a visitation to follow. Friends and family will assemble for a graveside service on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Grandview Cemetery. Donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 804 Montvale Station Road, Maryville, TN 37803 or Community Food Connection of Blount County.
