Judge W. Dale Young, age 73, of Maryville, died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at his home. Judge Young recently retired as the Circuit Court Judge Blount County Division 1 after 26 years on the bench. He graduated from Maryville High School in 1956 and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Maryville College. He then graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law where he earned his Bachelor of Law Degree and Doctor of Jurisprudence Degrees. His law practice began with the law firm of Dunn, Felknor, Young, Paine, and DeLozier. He served as Assistant Attorney General for the 4th Judicial Circuit. Young was active in republican politics and served as Chairman for the Eisenhower campaign and the Howard Baker Jr. Senate campaign. Young went on to become East Tennessee Campaign manager for Winfield Dunn for Governor. He served on the transition staff for Governor Dunn and in 1970 became Dunn’s Chief of Staff/Deputy Governor. After leaving the Governors office he became house council for Blount National Bank holding company. In 1985 he became Circuit Judge. Young served on various boards and commissions including the Blount County Quarterly Court (Blount County Commission). He is survived by his brother, Norman W. Young of Reno, Nevada; Nephews, Tom Young and wife Marina, and John Young. Great-Nieces, Amanda Young, Senior Airman in the U.S. Air Force serving in Germany, Elizabeth Young, and Patricia Young; As per his wishes Judge Young will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Charles Ballard officiating and Eulogy by former Mayor Jerry Cunningham.
