Joyce Messer Patton

Joyce Messer Patton, age 94 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Asbury Place Health Care Center of Maryville. She was born on March 28, 1917 in Johnson City, TN. She is preceded in death by: Parents, Rev. J. Allen & Nellie Cowan Messer; Infant Brother & Sister; Husband, Barney B. Patton; Daughter, Dianne Patton Galloway. Survivors include: Son, Jim Patton of Asbury Assisted Living; Son & Daughter-in-law, Neil & Laura Patton of Maryville; Three Grandchildren & Five Great-Grandchildren, Eric & Sandra Patton & daughter Megan of VA; Lisa Patton Thornton & husband Tom, and daughters Kimberly and Sarah of FL; Byron & Mollie Galloway with Katie & Kyle of VA; Two Cousins, Bill McCall & wife Bettye of Maryville and Susan Bean of Smyrna, GA. Joyce and family moved back to Maryville in 1938 and built a home on McCall Road where she lived until 2007. She was active in PTA and school events during her children's education years. She was an active member of New Providence Presbyterian Church for 73 years, and an active member of Mary Blount Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution for 71 years holding chapter offices and chairmanships concentrating on the DAR Good Citizen Programs in the local schools. During World War II she worked in the Payroll Office of Alcoa. Special thanks to Asbury Place and Staff for their tender loving care, especially Kay Burnett. Funeral service will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. J. Steven Musick officiating. Interment will follow at Clark's Grove Cemetery.
