Rev. Joseph Charleston Reed

July 12, 1914 — June 28, 2011

Rev. Joseph Charleston (J.C.) Reed died on June 28, 2011, just two weeks short of his 97th birthday. He was ordained to the gospel ministry in May 1942. He pastored churches in Cocke, Knox and Blount Counties. He was pastor emeritus of East Maryville Baptist Church where he served 18 years. He also served as interim pastor of several churches in Blount County. He was active in the Knox County and the Chilhowee Baptist Associations and pastors’ conferences while pastoring churches in those associations. He was currently a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Burella (Hondee) Reed; parents, Joe A. and Barbara Reed; daughter-in-law, Jerry Ann Reed; nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include son, Wayne Reed of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law, John and Margaret Reed of Knoxville; daughter-in-law, Jane Reed of Maryville; grandchildren and spouses, Craig and Elaine West of Pueblo, CO, Charles Wayne and Janie Reed of Tullahoma, Lynn Reed and Eileen Campbell-Reed of Nashville, Douglas and Terri Reed of Farragut, Mark and Renee Wilbanks of Powell; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Jocie Douglas of Bybee, TN. Family will receive friends on Sunday, July 3, 2011 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00p.m. at East Maryville Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow with Rev. David Webster, Rev. Glen Grubb, and Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. Burial immediately following at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
