Joseph V. Buchanan

Joseph V. “Joe” Buchanan age 86 of Maryville passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 at home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean era; he was present during the detonation of five hydrogen bombs at Eniwetok Atoll. He was a teacher and principal with Athlens City Schools for 40 years, and also a proud participant in the school camp program. Joe belonged to a number of churches and civil organizations over the years. After retirement he was an avid golfer and good friend and neighbor. He is preceded in death by his wife Deanna R. Buchanan and their parents. He is survived by son John Buchanan and wife Liz Proffitt, and daughter and son in law Trisha and Bill Owens, and granddaughter Ashley and wife Kim Best and granddaughter Holly Owens. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 19, 2018 in the Smith Trinity Chapel. Family and friends will assemble for a graveside service and interment on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Middle Creek Cemetery in Pigeon Forge.
