Sgt. 1st Class Retired John Thompson age 63 of Friendsville passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the family home. He was a member of VFW, Masonic Lodge #1299 of Houston, TX, D.A.V. of Knoxville, American Legion, Sunday School Teacher at Louisville First Baptist Church. Preceded in death by: Son, Steven Thompson. Survivors include, Wife, Teresa Thompson; Sons, John L. Gordon, Tim Gordon, Blake Thompson; Daughters, Christy Brown and Chasity Prats & husband Chris; Grandchildren, Brittani, Taylor, Tanner, Cameron, Jessica, Melissa, Chelsea, Brittnee, Leslie, Tristan, Tyler, Bailee, and Jared; 3 Great-Grandchildren, ; Parents, Clyde & Gladys Thompson; Brother & Sister-in-law, Allen & Janet Thompson; Sister, Sharon Young; many other special family members and friends; 3 dogs, Rocket, Russell, and Peyton. The family would like to thank Dr. Awad and The Liver Transplant Team of VA Nashville, The Kidney Transplant team of U.T. Hospital, staff at Blount Memorial Hospital and M.E.N.D of Blount Memorial Hospital and all others involved in his journey. Funeral service will be 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Smith Chapel. Family and friends will assemble at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Hwy. for the interment with Rev. Curtis Cornett.
