John Edward Myers born March 28, 1962, passed away January 21, 2023, at his home in Maryville. John worked for South Blount Utility District, where his coworkers became his family, for nearly 33 years. Prior to his career at South Blount, he worked for many years at the bike shop in Cades Cove where he acquired lifelong friends from all over the country. John was an avid antique collector, or as his friends and family called him, a hoarder. If he wasn’t on the hunt for his next treasure, you could find him barefoot in an old sleeveless shirt and shorts on the back of a lawnmower. He loved the outdoors, rock’n’roll, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. John was a simple and kind man who exemplified selflessness and was always willing to help anyone in need. John is preceded in death by his father, Ralph ‘Smig’ Myers; sister, Donna Phelps. He is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Paula (Hembree) Myers; mother, Ellen ‘Marie’ Myers; mother-in-law, Joyce Hembree; sons, Justin Myers and Brandon Amburn; daughters, Ashley (Jason) Van Norstran and Tracy (Dustin) Brown; grandchildren, Savannah, LeAnna, Audrey, Kendall, and Cannon Van Norstran, Aidan Myers, Cohen and Tatum Brown; great-grandchildren, Hudson Hurst and Hadley Riffey; brother Mike (Jackie) Myers; sister, Janet (Eddie) Lunsford; sister-in-law, Donna (Mickey) Burris; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Smith Trinity Chapel. A Memorial Service will follow with Rev. Quentin Caldwell officiating. Family and friends will gather at 1:00 PM for Interment Friday, January 27, 2023, at Grandview Cemetery. The family would like to extend its gratitude to the City of Maryville First Responders as well as the emergency medical staff at Blount Memorial Hospital.
