John L. Gee, of Friendsville, Tennessee, passed away at the age of 94 on Monday, February 21,2022. Born on October 23, 1927, John was a renaissance man. He spent 2 years in the engine room on a Navy Submarine shortly after WWII. In addition, he was an engineer at TVA until his retirement. At that time, he started a business, Mr Fixit, and he truly could-fix anything! He became a master beekeeper and an inspector and, also served as an officer in the Blount County Beekeepers Association. He was very interested in politics and current affairs. He never missed the news. He and his wife Barbara had season tickets to both the UT Football games (shout out to section PP) and the Lady Vols until their health kept them from attending. He was an expert gardener and produced some of the finest tomatoes in East Tennessee. Ask him what type of music he enjoyed and he would quickly let you know; “I like opera and classical music.” He married the love of his life, Barbara Kennedy Gee, on December 17, 1950. Their journey together spanned more than 70 years, and their devotion to each other was always evident. While they enjoyed taking trips with family and friends, they also happily welcomed anyone into their home. In Barbara’s last years, she suffered from dementia. John was her loving caregiver until her death in May of 2021. John is predeceased by his parents and his siblings: Bob, Janie, Carol, Betty, Ed, and Dick. He is survived by his son Larry and wife Maria and their children Michael and Ellen. He is also dearly loved by his nieces, nephews, and their families. Debbie and Norman Hicks were treasured friends. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the UT Medical Center for their care and compassion. Family and friends will assemble at 3:00 PM for Graveside Service and Interment Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Alcoa.
