Joe David “Dave” Sargent, 76, of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Born on March 26, 1947, in Simpsonville, South Carolina, Dave was a beloved husband, father, and friend to all who knew him. A generous and loving man, Dave was known for his friendly nature and his deep faith. He lived his life as a faithful servant of Christ, striving to bring glory to God and share His love with others. Dave is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jan, and his children Katie Voyles and her husband Nick, David and his wife Ashley, and his son, Kelly. He also leaves behind his brother Roger Sargent and his brother Phillip Sargent. Dave was preceded in death by his father James Sargent, his mother Frances Sargent, and his brother Don Sargent. Dave proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966-1970. After his military service, his passion for art led him to pursue higher education at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Throughout his career, Dave worked in advertising and graphic design, including positions at the Church of God General Offices in Cleveland, TN, and as an Art Director for Frank Wills Advertising in Little Rock, AR. Most recently, he worked part-time at Advance Auto Parts in Maryville, where he thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity for conversation with the employees there and the many customers he met. Dave found solace and community at RIO Revolution Church, where he worshipped. In his free time, Dave enjoyed reading, hiking, painting, building historic firearms, and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his beloved wife, Jan. Dave Sargent will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, faith, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. A memorial service celebrating Dave’s life will take place on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 3:30 PM at Rio Revolution Church, 3419 E Lamar Alexander Pkwy, Maryville, TN 37804.
