JoAnn Shields of Blount County, Tennessee entered God’s Heavenly Gardens on Saturday May 20, 2017. She was a native and life-long resident of Blount County. She enjoyed facing sunshine, getting her hands in the earth and loving God and all the beautiful things that He has put here for our use and enjoyment. She always gave so much to others; many times going without things that she needed or wanted herself. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, parents John H. and Lucille Ball Teffeteller, sister Virginia Singleton. Survivors include sons Tim R. Shields of Maryville , Trent Shields and wife Terri of Maryville, grandson Tanner Shields , granddaughter Tara Ann Shields both of Maryville, and other relatives and special friends. JoAnn was a very knowledgeable gardener. She was a life member of Tennessee Federation of National Council of State Garden Clubs. She was an active member of Mountain Laurel Club for over 38 years and a life member. She was a co-founder of Tuckaleechee Garden Club and helped organize several other Garden Clubs over the years. JoAnn was an active member of GFWC Chilhowee Club. She was a founding charter member of Cades Cove Preservation Association, participated in the Dogwood Arts Festivals for many years and was involved in many other civic clubs, community and church projects. She enjoyed collecting antiques and going to farm auctions. JoAnn gave up a career with the telephone company many years ago to have more time with her children and help with elderly relatives.
