Jeffrey Richard Schenk

Jeffrey Richard Schenk passed away on November 25, 2023, at age 47.  Born in Knoxville, Jeffrey had multiple medical and developmental conditions.  Thanks to his early child development and special education teachers, he gained the skills which allowed him to enjoy life.  Jeffrey loved people and spending time with family, friends, teachers, and caregivers.  He attended The Gateway to Independence and participated in Special Olympics and numerous adaptive summer camps.  Jeffrey had a circle of support which included the Breakthrough Organization and D&S Community Services.  He is survived by: parents, Richard and Carole Schenk; sister, Dr. Jill Schenk and her husband Jim DeStaso III; brother, Todd Schenk; aunt, Jean Stanish; uncle, Robert Schenk and his wife Diane Schenk; numerous cousins.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Highland Presbyterian Church.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations in Jeffrey’s name to Highland Presbyterian Church, 721 E Lamar Alexander Pkwy, Maryville, TN 37804 or The Gateway to Independence, PO Box 6023, Maryville, TN 37802.  Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
