Jeanette Lanning Payne Davis, age 74, passed away at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from complications resulting from a massive stroke she suffered October 1, 2012. Jeanette was born in Tellico Plains, TN to Earl & Marie Payne on July 24, 1937. She married Winston H. (Sid) Davis on June 3, 1962. Jeanette attended Maryville city school and graduated from Maryville High School in 1957. She attended the University of Tennessee and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963 and her Master of Arts degree in 1972. She completed 45-quarter hours of graduate work beyond her Master's Degree in Speech and Theater. She was recognized for her academic achievements at UT by receiving membership in the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Jeanette retired from Alcoa City School in 1994 with 30 years of experience teaching American History and Junior English at Alcoa High School. She had many talents. She sang in the church choir at Monte Vista Baptist Church for many years and was an accomplished pianist. Jeanette was an avid wild flower Photographers and had completed an extensive collection, which she had hoped to publish. She was in the final stages of completing a historic fiction novel based on a mountain logging town. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Maryville and was a member of the Encouragers Sunday School Class. Survivors include: Husband, Winston H. (Sid) Davis; Mother, Marie Payne; Special friends are Judy Hunter Hatfield, Beverly Millsap Henry, and Bobby Beaty. Funeral service will be at 4:00 PM, Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Greg Price and Rev. George Macht officiating.
