James Marvin “Myrtel” Tindell, 67, of ‘Top of the World’ Community, Tallassee, TN passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, April 27th, 2019 at Blount Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Marvin was born to the proud parents Edward and Edna Ruth (Boring) Tindell September 6, 1951 in Maryville, TN. It didn’t take long for older sister and brother, Sharon and Bobby, to know that Marvin would forever be ‘The Baby’. After graduating from Lanier High School and pursuing a few miscellaneous jobs, Marvin landed his first big job at Werner Service Center on 411 which specialized in servicing and rebuilding Volkswagen engines. It didn’t take long for him and everyone he came in contact with to know he had found his niche. Marvin worked several years for Werner but eventually went on to open his own garage. He could work on about any engine you put in front on him. Marvin was known as a man who enjoyed living a simple life. He loved his home on “top of the world’. He enjoyed the peacefulness, beauty and seclusion that he found there. His two best friends, his recently deceased brother, Bobby “Kojak” Tindell and his dog, “Big Dog’. He was also known for his willingness to always stop what he was doing to help others. If you mention the name ‘Myrtle” around town, you will hear stories of how he helped someone with one thing or another. He will be missed by many and touched more lives than he ever realized. One of Marvin’s proudest and yet scariest moments, was the birth of his only child, James “Darrell” Tindell in 1973. He called his sister Sharon on several occasion to ask for advice on how do we do this or that. He would often go home on his lunch hour just to see and check -in on Darrell. Marvin is survived by son Darrell and wife Amanda (Hardin) Tindell, Grandson Brandon Tindell, Sister and Brother-in-law, Sharon Goforth Larson and Roger Larson, Nephews: Denny (Robin) Goforth, Scott (Holly) Goforth, Brad Goforth, Brownlow Tindell and Matthew Tindell, Nieces: Pamela (Jerry) Sheehan, Lesley Covington and Connie (Brian) Gennoe. Several great nephews and nieces and his Special Dog “Big Dog”. Marvin was predeceased by parents Edward and Edna Ruth (Boring) Tindell, and Brother Robert “Kojak” Tindell.
