James “Jay�? Henry Runyan, age 91, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011. He was a member of Maryville Seventh-day Adventist Church and retired from the United States Navy. He is preceded in death by his siblings Lorene Yater, Fannie Shaw and Dearyl Runyan. Survivors include, Nephews, Dearyl David Runyan and Charles Shaw; Niece, Linda Bennett. Jay was a man who enjoyed reading and learning about history, but also was a man who was a part of history. Serving in World War II in the US Navy, he had experiences that ranged from having President Roosevelt aboard his ship, to being a first responder in Japan after the bombing at Hiroshima. He was willing to share his stories of World War II with those interested in hearing. He had fantastic friendships within his community, tended to the care of his brother and sister in their final days, and opened his home to family. He was a blessing to those he met, and will be missed by many. Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and inurnment at 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Grandview Cemetery with Pastor Ed Santana officiating.
