James L. Payne

James L. Payne, age 82 of Alcoa, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at his home. He is a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a former member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church. Jim retired from Callaway Oil Company after 40 years of service and served in the Tennessee Air National Guard. Preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Payne; parents, Walter Lou and Maude Payne; siblings, Mae Gedig, Wilburn Payne, Mildred Boyce, and Jean Payne. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Rachel Payne; daughter and son-in-law, Kelli and Mike McBrayer; grandchildren, Lexi and Gracie McBrayer, Emiline Orf and husband, Sam, Christopher, and Luke Payne. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Friday, September 1, 2023 at Smith Trinity Chapel. The Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Greg Long officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 AM for Interment Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Grandview Cemetery.
