James William Ogle

James William Ogle, age 89 went home to be with the Lord, February 1, 2013. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Knoxville. He was retired, but took great pride in having served the Lord as a pastor of Baptist churches for over thirty years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during WWII in Europe participating in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded and was awarded Bronze Stars and Purple Heart Medals. Preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Lawrence Ogle and Addie Duggan Ogle and step-mother, Emma Scott Ogle; an infant brother who died at birth; brother, Odra Ogle; sisters, Joyce Martin and Louise Finger; beloved granddaughter, Charity Felicia Hensley; and several beloved members of the Roberson Family. He is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 70 years, Faye Evelyn Roberson Ogle; daughters Faye Evelyn (Fred C.) Self, Amber Marie Cooper, Constance Faith Ogle, and Joy Beth (Jed L.) Hester; two granddaughters, Hope Elizabeth Cooper (Eddie) Pryor and Sherri Lynnette Cooper (John) Bevis; four grandsons, Capt. Dana T. Hensley, MD, Luke Lemuel Hester, Jeremiah Joseph Hester, and Levi Ezekiel Hester; three great grandchildren, Kathryn Marie Pryor, Andrew Robert Pryor, and Uriah Tristian Hensley; sister, Marjorie Ogle Cardwell; several nieces and nephews from the Ogle family; three sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews from the Roberson family. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, followed by a celebration service at Smith Mortuary, Maryville, Dr. Deron Cobb, officiating. Family and friends will meet at East Maryville Baptist Church Cemetery, Wednesday, for 11:00 a.m. interment. Special thanks from the family to faithful gracious caregiver Tracy Cloud; family physician of many years, Dr. Jerome Heiny; kind attentive nurses and staff at UT Hospital, Floor 6E; long-term family friend and barber, Clifford Blankenship; and many wonderful friends and neighbors who have visited and shown kindness through the years. As a personal tribute we must add that our Dad, our Papaw, was a devout Christian who loved God with his whole heart. He took every opportunity to share that love with everyone who crossed his path. He was a soldier who fought for his country and shined when he could tell you about the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. His memories were so vivid, he taught us so much. He loved his Queen of the Roberson's, Evelyn Ogle, like a man who knew his life wouldn't be the same without her - and it wasn't. He was a storyteller who loved to relive over and over all those times that made him laugh. And oh how he laughed, slapping his knee as if it was the first time you had ever heard the story. His family will miss him greatly, but fully know that we will be with him again in the Heaven he so long prepared to see. He will join his granddaughter, Charity, and other members of his family and wait for the rest of us, who will rejoice in a Kingdom of no pain, no suffering, with our ever loving and faithful Father. That faith was instilled in each of us because we had a Dad and Papaw who made sure that we knew from the beginning who our Redeemer was and that each of us knew about God's gift of salvation. Thank you, Dad and Papaw, for telling us about Jesus. We rejoice that you are with Him and that you have only healthy and joyous days ahead in your everlasting future.
