James (Jim) W. Estes Sr. of Maryville was called home on Saturday, August 31, 2019 by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jim was born in Giles County, TN on August 19, 1922. He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 52 years, Betty Estes, as well as his mother, Hattie Estes; father, Polk English Estes; brother, Joe Estes; son, Joe W. Estes; grandchildren: Beatrice, Denise, Brandy, and Bryan. Jim was a member of Clark’s Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. He was a WWII veteran and landed on Utah Beach on D-day, as well as fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and Hurtgen Forest. He was employed by Ceramo Co. of Jackson, Missouri for over 35 years, while also working for the Maryville City Police Department. He eventually spent over 30 years serving his community with the Blount County Sheriff's Department and remained an active member of the FOP until the age of 97. He finally retired at the age of 94 to care for his wife, Betty. Jim was a Scottish Rite Mason for over 60 years and was a member of the Kerbela Shriners. Jim is survived by eight children who were fortunate to call him Daddy: Kent, Drew, Jimmy, Wayne, Maggie, Lynn, Barb, and Booboo. He has numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 3 from 5-7 p.m. in the Smith West Chapel and a Celebration of Life will follow.
