James William Clough age 85 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at home. James was born March 1, 1934 in Hudson Falls, NY. In 1949, Jim contracted Polio but overcame it and was on the track team in 1951. James was an Eagle Scout with Troop 57 in Hudson Falls, NY in 1950. In 1981, James received the Order of the Arrow Distinguished Service Award. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957 and was honorably discharged as Airman 1st Class. He graduated in 1951 and received a BS in Education in 1960 and MS in Education in 1964 from New York State University in Oneonta, NY. He taught school, grades 5 and 6 from 1960 to 1994 at South Glens Fall Central, NY Harrison Avenue School for 5 years, Spring Street School for 3 years and at Tanglewood School for 26 years. While teaching he directed over 25 plays with children in 5th and 6th grades. He coached the high school women’s softball team for 6 years (1980 – 1985) where they were champions for 4 years and was section champs in 1982. He was very active with outdoor education and had a school camping trip with class for over 15 years and was an instructor in NYS Project Learning Tree for currant teachers. James was named in Who’s Who in American Teachers twice (1990 and 2000). He enjoyed family trips. Survivors include: Daughter, Tammy J. Estabrook; Grandchildren, Joan Estabrook, James Estabrook, Debbie Estabrook, William Estabrook; Great-Grandson, Duke Estabrook.
