James Gale Acuff

Acuff, James Gale age 84 of Maryville, passed away Friday, November 24, 2006 at Blount Memorial Hospital after a long struggle with lung cancer. He was a member of Fairpark Wesleyan Church. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evart & Reva Acuff; sisters, Imelda Nicely & Marie Chambers; son-in-law, Bob Meadows. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Bernice Duggan Acuff; children, Charlene Meadows of Lufkin, TX; Jama Acuff of Sharpsburg, GA; Scott Acuff and wife Shirley of Sparta, TN; Mark Acuff and wife Gayle of Fuquay-Varina, NC; five grandchildren, Holly Bridwell and husband, Wade, Robin Lovelady, David Meadows, Scott Acuff Jr., Seth Acuff and wife, Jennifer; five great-grandchildren, Meggan, Morgan & Caleb Bridwell, Boyd Lovelady & Zachery Acuff; brother & sister-in-law, Charlie Boyd & Dorothy Acuff of Alcoa; and a loving extended family. The family would like to thank special caregiver, Ruth Zellner, the medical staff of Blount Memorial Hospital and the Acuff's neighbors. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 26, 2006 at Smith Mortuary. Funeral service 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 27, 2006 at West Chapel, Smith Mortuary with Pastor Wayne Friday officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens with military honors.
