Jack Robert Walker, age 87, went home to be with the Lord August 10, 2019. He was a graduate of Walland High School. He served in the United States Army for 2 years during the Korean War as a teletype operator and was honorably discharged in 1954. Jack was postmaster at Walland Post Office for 29 years and the last one in Blount County to be appointed by a president, John F. Kennedy. He was a long time member of Millers Cove Missionary Baptist Church where he enjoyed teaching Sunday school and helping with all church events. Jack touched the lives of many people in the community and will be dearly missed. He enjoyed playing games with his grandchildren, hiking, traveling, farming, and attending every one of his grandchildren’s sporting or school events. He was preceded in death by wife Vonnie, brothers Oscar, Gene, Vance, and Harve. He is survived by his son Alan and daughter-in-law Debbie, his son Roger and daughter-in-law Donna, his granddaughter Amanda and husband Charlie Binder, grandson Gene and wife Bethany, granddaughter Jessica and husband Taylor Lindsey, granddaughters Kayla and Shelby, great granddaughter Espen, brother Max and sister-in-law Dixie, and sister Elizabeth French. Jack was married to Vonnie Reece Flynn for 64 years until her passing on July 10th of this year. Jack fought through many strokes and illnesses but could not overcome a broken heart. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in the Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. David Powell and Rev. Lucas Boring officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at West Millers Cove Cemetery for the interment.
