Jack Henry Hensley

JACK HENRY HENSLEY – age 64, of Alcoa, TN, was called home to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 15, 2014, at the family home after an extended illness. Born March 1, 1950, in Marshall, NC, Jack was the son of the late John Wesley Hensley, II and Betty Lynn Grissom Hensley. He served in Vietnam with the U.S. Air Force and graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1978, with an Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene. Jack was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Louisville, TN; Charles H. McKinney Masonic Lodge #433 in Knoxville, TN; and the Knoxville Scottish Rite and Kerbela Temple. He had a special talent for photography and enjoyed drawing roses and writing poetry for his beloved wife. Those who love him will always remember his gregarious personality, booming laugh and contagious smile. Jack was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother, John W. Hensley, III of Knoxville, TN; and sister, Deloris Outland, of Cary, NC. Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Linda Hendrick Hensley, children Lisa Hensley Gonzalez (Juan Gonzalez) of Bonaire, GA; Jesse Hensley (Gabby Preciado) of Maryville, TN; and Joseph Hensley (Jennifer Hawkinson Hensley) of Biloxi, MS; grandsons Micah, Elijah, Isaac, and Joseph; brother Don Hensley of Panhandle, TX; sisters Pearl Whaley of Seymour, TN; Dotty Coram of Blaine, TN; Vickie Clark of Halls, TN; and Kathy Whitson of Corryton, TN; 27 nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and cherished family friend Tamela Hodges of Muskegon, MI. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at the Knoxville VA Outpatient Clinic, Veteran Administration Aid and Attendance Program, Caris Hospice, and the Disabled American Veterans. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014, at Smith Funeral & Cremation Services in Maryville, TN, prior to the 6:00 p.m. service officiated by Rev. Stan Knight. Jack will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors on Monday, September 22, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway in Knoxville, TN.
