Hope Josephine Van De Werken

March 26, 1921 — October 15, 2011

Hope Josephine Van De Werken, “Hopie?, 90, of Walland, TN, formerly of Littleton, CO, passed away on October 15, 2011. She was born and raised in Michigan City, IN. She was one of the first women of her area to join the U.S. Army (WACS). She advances quickly in a Mash unit, where she met her loving husband Walter (U.S.N.) who was recovering from being “blown up? aboard the U.S.S. Partridge during World War II. They happily shared 55 years together before “Wonderful Walter? passed away in December of 2004. They shared their golden years together here in this beautiful State of Tennessee, where they enjoyed sunrises, each others companionship, their small dog, the birds singing and dashing about, the breath-taking view of the Smokey Mountains"all this from their beautiful backyard of their home. They had three children together: Worldly daughter, Paula Van De Werken of Hollis, NH, Loving daughter, Nancy Allison, RIP of Walland, TN, who recently passed away during surgery, this devastated Hope who managed a nursing career along with her family life, and last but not least “Hopie’s Boy? Jon Van De Werken and his loving wife of 34 years Annette of Sargent, NE. Hope was a caring Grandma to seven grandchildren: Faithful Steve Allison Jr. of Knoxville, TN (to whom we are eternally grateful for all his help with mom over the last few years), Clint, Andy and Tom Allison of Knoxville, TN and Clearwater, FL, Unity Dienes (Paula’s daughter) of Hollis, NH, and my 2 awesome sons, Luke & Logan Van De Werken of CO. “Hopie? was also a Great-Grandma to eight fantastic Great Grandkids: Abigail Jantz-Allison, Andrew, Thomas, Zoe, Irene and Nate Dienes, Chloe Van De Werken, Luke’s daughter and Leah Sir Van De Werken, Logan’s daughter. Hope loved all animals and supported the humane society most of her life and incredibly at the age of 75 she started painting beautiful pictures, about 20 of them in all with a remarkable display of talent. Hope was always there for any of her family and will be greatly missed by all. A special thank you to Rebecca Bennett, DVM, of Maryville and Ken & Dorcas Gallimore of Walland. Following cremation, Hope and Walter’s ashes will be combined then spread at their favorite spot in the mountains. Peace and love to all. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
