Herbert Henry Meyer Jr.

August 20, 1929 — April 12, 2017

Herbert H. Meyer, age 87 of Maryville, TN passed away peacefully on April 12, 2017 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He attended Knoxville High School and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked for Union Carbide Corporation (now Dow Chemical Co.) Herbert eventually moved South to Maryville, Tennessee after his retirement. Over these years, Herbert became a Master Gardner, spent 25 years as a volunteer with Blount County Habitat, helping build and provide housing for many families. He also became involved with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library which provides books for young children. He and his wife, Ann, also loved working with Meal on Wheels. Herb was a member of Maryville Kiwanis Club. Herb leaves behind a sister Marilyn & husband Bob Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ann B. Meyer; children, Debbie & husband David Gayk of Knoxville and Mark & wife Trish Meyer of Loveland, OH. He loved his grandchildren, Shannon Gayk, Lucas & wife Deb Gayk, Susan & husband Joe Harvey, Danielle Meyer, and great grandchild, Lydia Gayk. Family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Fairview United Methodist Church with a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxville.
