Hazel Lee Spurling

Hazel Lee Spurling, age 80, of Greenback, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the family home. She was born July 28, 1928 to Cecil and Leila Sprague in Cherokee, AL. Hazel was a member of First Baptist Church of Friendsville. She enjoyed time spent with her church family as well as with her own children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by: Brother, Charles Sprague; Sisters, Betty Lewis and Lucy Grissom. She is survived by: Loving husband of 60 years, Johnnie R. Spurling; Daughter, Leila Alice Spurling; Sons, Richard (Marsha), Steve (Loletta), John (Wendy), Bill (Gloria), Sam (Hanna), Bob and George Spurling; grandchildren, Andrew (Angela) Spurling, Jeremy (Lora) Spurling, Jennifer (Paul) Busbey, Steve (Bobbi) Spurling, Melissa (Jesse) Arce, Tom (Melissa) Spurling, Sarah (Phil) Retino, Johnnie Sue Spurling, Billy Spurling, Elizabeth Spurling, Bobby (Lee) Spurling, and Daniel (April) Spurling; Step-grandchildren, Heaven (Brian) Taylor, Danielle Richardson, Jimmy Dale and Tara Neet; 20 great-grandchildren; Sisters, Josephine Kendricks, Becky Austin, Marie Collum and Ethel Trexler; Brothers, Buddy and William Sprague; along with many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Smith West Chapel with Rev. Ron Russell officiating. Family and friends will assemble for the interment at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 25, 2009 at Marble Hill Church Cemetery.
