Harry James Ferguson, age 76 of Maryville, TN, passed away early Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born January 11, 1948 and raised in Knoxville, TN and was a 1966 graduate of Rule High School. He proudly served his country as a Marine during the Vietnam War beginning in 1966 on the watchdogs of the Mediterranean Sea cruise and had other duties as a Private First Class soldier to quickly become Sergeant (E-5) through the time he was honorably discharged January 10, 1972 with a medal for good conduct and a badge for rifle marksmanship. He retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company after nearly 30 years. Harry was a generous and caring person, who enjoyed travelling, especially to various beaches, and fishing. Most of all he loved spending time with “the Love of [his] life”, a big 8-year-old chocolate Lab named Lunker. He was preceded in death by his parents John W. and Mary D. Ferguson; brothers J.W., Bill and Gary; sisters Joyce Ferguson and Imogene Burleson. He is survived by sister Felma Fine and brother & sister-in-law Paul & Susan Ferguson of Knoxville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their children, etc.; as well as many friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Smith Funeral & Cremation Service Funeral Home at 1402 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville TN 37803. Family and friends will gather at 2:45 PM at Sherwood Chapel & Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 3176 Airport Hwy, Alcoa TN 37701. A graveside service and entombment will be held at 3:00 PM in the Sherwood Mausoleum Chapel with full military honors.
