Harold C. "Pete" Dottery, age 87, went to the Lord on Sunday, October 7, 2007. We say goodbye to a beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. Harold wed Rachel Murphy of Columbia on January 31, 1942. He was chosen to fight for his country in World War II on the beaches of France. The French Government honored him at a ceremony on April 6, 2006, as well as other Blount County residents that served on French soil. While in the military, he received many medals and honors. Private First Class Harold C. Dottery received an Honorable Discharge on October 25, 1945. After Pete left the military, he began working for the East Tennessee Farmers Cooperatives and eventually became the head Auditor for East Tennessee. He has been a member of the National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives for the last 52 years. In 1988, he received the Silver Bowl award from the NSAC. He was the president of the Mid Central Chapter. In 1971, Pete became a member of both the NSAC Tax Committee and the Legal, Tax, and Accounting Committee of the National Council of Farmers Cooperatives. Also in 1971, he served as chairman of the LTA sub-committee on Distinguishing Between Patronage and Non-Patronage Sourced Income. He was also a member of the Investment Tax Credit and Tax reform sub-committee. He retired from the Farmers Cooperatives and started traveling the world with the love of his life Rachel. In 1983 Pete was elected to be the Knight Commander of the Court of Honor by the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite. He was a 32nd degree Mason. Pete was a member of the Tennessee Numismatic Society. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Rachel Murphy Dottery on June 8, 2005 and his parents, William and Florence Russell Trail. He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Shields of Maryville, and Kay and husband Jerry Russell of Maryville; five grandchildren, Mike and wife Joy Paine, Tim and wife Telissa Paine of Maryville, Kevin and wife Jamie Russell of Maryville, Jennifer Russell of Maryville, and Will Rogers of Chattanooga; six great grandchildren, Danah and husband Scott Joyner, Michael Paine, Austin Paine, Adam Paine, and Branden and Riley Russell; two great grandchildren, Paige and Christopher Joyner.
