Harold Andrew Coulter, Sr. age 94, of Maryville, TN went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2022. He was a Christian who attended Mount Lebanon Baptist Church for many years. He was born on Four Dollar Row in the family home in Walland. The road is now called Cricket Lane. His family moved to the Coulter Farm at Coulter’s Bridge to help his grandfather with farming. He worked on the family farm with his sisters, brother and cousins. They worked the land years ago with a team of mules and a wooden wagon. He worked in the hay, wheat, harvested corn, grew vegetables and strawberries which they sold. It was hard work on the farm, but he had great stories to tell along with wonderful memories.
He was a proud graduate of Walland High School where he played basketball, football and was a cheerleader. He went to Maryville College along with his sister, June. He worked in the rock crushing business for a few years which kept him away from home. He bought Trailways Esso gas station along with his then father-in-law, A.N. Bogart. After closing the station, he worked for Metropolitan Life for 25 years. He and Pat bought Hayes Alignment which they owned for 15 years. He then went to work in the County Clerk’s office, retiring at age 84. He served on the Blount County Sheriff’s Merit Board receiving the highest citizen service award in 2017.
Harold loved his antique John Deere tractor. He had a wonderful personality and was loved by many. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and papaw. He and Pat celebration 51 years of marriage in August. They met at the Billy Graham Crusade in Knoxville. They loved each other very much.
Preceded in death by: parents, Andrew Houston Coulter and Anna Elizabeth Waters Coulter; sisters, Margaret “Eileen” Coulter Lowe and Mary “June” Coulter Daniels; sons, Harold Andrew Coulter, Jr. (Andy) and Dustin Lee Shamblin; nephew, Randy Thomas Lowe. Survivors include: wife, Patsy Ann Coulter; daughter, Linda Coulter Pace (Lynn), son, Mike L. Shamblin (Terri); brother, Max Houston Coulter (Betty); granddaughters, Heather Shamblin Thompson (Matt), Alyson Shamblin Oakley (Chris), and Laurel Pace Carbone (John); great-grandchildren, Mae & Turner Thompson and Ava Turner; nieces and nephews, Terri Lowe Teague (Randy), Mike Houston Coulter (Jan), and Brian Max Coulter (Hollie); special friends, Dee Haun and Carol Shamblin-Liposky. Family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Grandview Pavilion. Funeral service will be at 3:00 PM with Rev. Greg Long and Rev. Raymond Burnett officiating.
