Grace Elizabeth Horis Downey

Grace Horis Downey passed away July 11, 2011 at Blount Memorial Hospital due to complications to Alzheimer’s. She had lived the last 8 years at Sterling House Assisted Living. Grace was born in Mississippi in 1923. She met Earl Downey in Memphis and was married September 11, 1948. After 52 years of a very successful marriage, Earl passed away in 2002. They moved to Maryville in 1956 and several years later became co-owners of Maryville Jewelers. Since 1956 Grace was an active member of the Maryville Church of Christ. Her church was a great source of spiritual support for her. She was a dedicated wife and mother and derived great pleasure from her family. Survivors include: Children, Leon & wife Margie and Anne & husband Tom Reis; 4 grandchildren, Gil & Brett Downey, Elizabeth & Colin Reis; Brother & Sister-in-law, Tom & Ruth Horis; Sister, Dessarie; Brother & Sister-in-law, Aaron & Jeanette. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Sterling House for their exceptional care. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Smith West Chapel with Minister Herb Byrd officiating.
