Glenn T. Garner age 79 of Louisville passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Glenn was born in Blount County and grew up in the Six Mile area. He joined the Army in 1949 and served in Korea, Iceland, Vietnam, Dominican Republic and Thailand. He served as the Recruiting Officer at the Knoxville AFES Recruiting Center before retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Green Berets, a paratrooper and retired as a Major. After his military career, he served as a Blount County Deputy Sheriff, then as the Blount County Veteran’s Officer. He was the first Director of the Blount County Juvenile Center. After retiring, he enjoyed watching Nascar racing, Braves Baseball and any UT ballgames with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by family. Preceded in death by: Parents, Arthur & Stella Garner; Son, Gary A. Garner; Brother, Fred Garner; Stepson, Doug Nolte. Survivors include: Wife of 18 years, Betty Garner; Son & Daughter-in-law, Ronald & Leony Garner of Maryville; Daughter & Son-in-law, Rosa & Phillip Clure of Maryville; Stepson, Scott Nolte & wife Tina; Grandchildren, Christopher A. Garner, Tana Gose & husband Mike, Mitch Clure & wife Chesney, Ronald Garner Jr., Thomas Garner, Brandon “Tiger�? Nolte; Brothers & Sisters-in-law, Raymond & Derotha Garner and Don & Ann Garner; Sister, Mildred Poplin; a host of nieces and nephews; Mother of his children, Soley Garner. Funeral service will be 7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Steve Poplin officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment.
