Sgt. Gerald L. Collis age 74 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the family home. He was born in Indiana and was a Veteran of the United States Army serving for 12 years as an Armor/Gunner. He served three tours in Vietnam and also served in Korea. He earned the Combat Infantryman’s Medal, Bronze Star, 16 Air Medals, Army Commendation Medal, and many other military decorations. Preceded in death by: Brothers, Harold Collis & Roy Collis. Survivors include: Wife & Best Friend of 25 years, Sue Collis; Daughters & Sons-in-law, Julie & Joe Martin of Kenton, OH, Michele & Frank LaVinga of Raveena, OH, and Amy & Todd Kauffman of Sylvania, OH; Nine Grandchildren; Nine Great-Grandchildren; Brother & Sister-in-law, Rodger & Esther Lawles of Columbus, IN; many nieces, nephews, and other family also survive. Family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 PM, Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral service will be at 8:30 PM at Smith Trinity Chapel. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 11:30 AM, Friday, July 21, 2017 at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
