Georgia Quesenberry Carver

March 17, 1920 — January 27, 2016

Georgia Amelia Quesenberry Carver, formerly of Kingsport TN and Big Stone Gap VA, died in Maryville TN on January 27, 2016, at the age of 95. She is survived by her daughters Susan Carver Williams of Maryville TN and Becky Carver of Durham NC; granddaughter Wendy Williams Wansley and husband James Wesley Wansley, great-grandchildren James Jackson Wansley, Amelia Jameson Wansley, and Harper Elizabeth Wansley, all of Eagle CO. Also surviving are nephew Spencer Quesenberry of Big Stone Gap VA; nieces Marcia Quesenberry of Big Stone Gap VA and Kathy Quesenberry of Ridgefield CT; as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews. She was the daughter of the late Milford Spencer Quesenberry Sr. and Mattie Elizabeth (Bessie) Skeen Quesenberry, Big Stone Gap VA. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Bon L. Carver of Kingsport, brother M.S. Quesenberry, Jr., sister-in-law Agnes Quesenberry, and niece Leslie Quesenberry Simonet. She was a 1937 graduate of East Stone Gap High School and attended Milligan College. She later graduated from East Tennessee State University. From 1939-46 she taught at Dunbar and Appalachia Elementary Schools. She resided in Kingsport from 1946-2011, where she taught one year at Washington Elementary and then later as a special education teacher at Kingsport’s Palmer Center, retiring in 1982 after 25 years there. She was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women; past president of the Kingsport Chapter of Altrusa International Service Club; member of the Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Teachers Society; member of the Long Island Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution; and the Kingsport and National Retired Teacher Associations. She was a former church youth leader, 4-H Club leader, and Girl Scout leader. Private burial services were provided to the family by Smith Funeral Home, Maryville TN, and Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap VA.
