George Williams, age 67 was born in Alcoa, Tennessee on August 9, 1947, and went to be with the Lord on October 21, 2014. George was a faithful member and deacon at Children of God COGIC in Knoxville, TN. Mr. Williams was most proud of his role as a grandfather and father. He was known for having a great impact in the lives of all with whom he came in contact over his many years of community service. Mr. Williams was an advocate for children and always at the forefront of finding ways to help children develop both academically and spiritually. George served for many years as the Department President of the Jurisdictional Young People's Willing Workers Department, Sunday School teacher, and Choir Member. As a public servant, Mr. Williams has served on the Alcoa City Commission, and was a former president of the Blount County Chamber of Commerce, and also served on the Alcoa City School Board, and various other boards and committees. His distinctive voice was heard for many years as a commentator of Alcoa High School football and his voice can currently be heard welcoming visitors to the Clayton Center. He retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority, where he worked as an Economic Development Specialist. Mr. Williams served as the founder and executive director of the Richard Williams Jr. Leadership Development Academy. George is preceded in death by: Father, Richard Williams Sr.; Mother, Gertrude Williams; Brother, Richard Williams Jr.; Sister, Jeanette Williams Roper. He is survived by: Sister, Henrietta Williams; Brother, Mike Williams; Sister, Geneva Williams Harrison; Brother, Rev. James L. Williams; Brother, Clarence B. Williams; Daughter, Marva C. Williams; Daughter, Asheley Williams Kenny; Son-in-law, Marcus Kenny; Grandson, Ephraim Z. Williams; Grandson, Alexander S. Howdeshell; and a great number of loving nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Friday, October 24, 2014 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Family will also receive friends from 9:00 until 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Children of God Church in Knoxville. Funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM with Evangelist Sharon Seay Whitelaw and Elder Cedric Seay officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
