George Lyle Walvoort

June 4, 1931 — December 1, 2016

George Lyle Walvoort, age 85, of Alcoa, passed away December 1, 2016. He was born and raised in Oostburg, Wisconsin. He was a Civil Engineer for the federal government for 30 years after receiving his engineering degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1965. George and his wife Lennis moved to Maryville in 1985. He was an active member of Broadway Methodist Church in Maryville. He spent 25 years delivering meals to shut-in members in the community through Meals on Wheels for Blount County Community Action Group. George also enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Lennis Sparks Walvoort; son, Douglas Lyle Walvoort; parents, Benjamin & Elsie Walvoort; brother & sister-in-law, Glen and Nancy Walvoort; sister, Lillian Walvoort; father and mother-in-law, Asa & Amy Burchfield Sparks; brothers-in-law, Rex Andes and Luke Sparks. He is survived by his son, Dale Alan Walvoort of Moneta, VA; grandson, Wayne Lyle Walvoort of Destin, FL; grandson, Clayton Alan Walvoort, wife Katie and son Wyatt Alan of Heyworth, IL; grandson, Asa Stanley Walvoort and granddaughter, Kayte Josephine Walvoort of Moneta, VA; brother, Robert Walvoort of Wisconsin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leon & Johnnie Sparks of Townsend, Leslie & Annie Sue Sparks of Loudon, Leland & Edna Sparks of Loudon, Larry & Katie Sparks of Loudon, Lamon & Gail Sparks of Ider, AL, Lenore Andes of Knoxville, Bob & Lucille Britton of Pigeon Forge, Bennie & Laverne McCarter of Sevierville, Mike & Linda Denton of Knoxville, Charles & Lois Kaye Russell of Maryville; and three generations of nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 PM, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Smith West Chapel. Funeral service will be 6:00 PM with Rev. Laura Rasor officiating. Please meet at the funeral home at 12:30 PM, Sunday, December 4, 2016 to proceed to Grandview Cemetery for interment at 1:00 PM.
