George Caywood Jacobs, Sr.

October 28, 1925 — April 21, 2016

George Caywood Jacobs Sr. age 90 of Knoxville went to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 21, 2016. He was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Knoxville, TN and a member of East Maryville Baptist Church in Maryville for the past 10 years. George was a Purple Heart recipient and US Navy WWII Veteran. He also served in the US Army during the Korean War. George retired after 40 years of service at TVA and returned as a TVA Retiree’s Association employee for an additional 20 years. He was extensively involved in several community organizations and an avid UT Athletics fan and worked Gate 2 at U.T. Neyland Stadium for 52 years. Preceded in death by: Parents, Pryor & Inez Jacobs; Brother, James E. Jacobs. Survivors include: Wife of 67 years, Loraine Jacobs; Son & Daughter-in-law, George Jr. & Donna Jacobs; Daughter & Son-in-law, Diane & Herb Payne; Grandchildren, Ryan Jacobs & wife Sarah, Marianne Shuler & husband Cody, Nick Jacobs & wife Allison, Leah McCoig & husband Jared, Capt. Jake Payne USMC & wife Stacey; 13 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: HonorAir Knoxville, 7536 Taggart Lane, Knoxville, TN 37938-8996. Family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:30 PM, Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 3:30 PM with Rev. Keith Johnson officiating.
