George Ray Bible age 73 of Maryville departed his earthly life on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Blount Memorial Hospital and went to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born in Hot Springs, NC on January 22, 1939. He graduated from East High School in 1957. He joined the Air National Guard. In 1958, George enlisted in the United States navy where he served aboard the nuclear submarine, U.S.S. Skate. In 1959, the Skate made history when it surfaced through the polar ice cap at the North Pole. Upon completion of his Navy enlistment, he lived in Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked as an engineer in charge of testing nuclear underground explosives at the Nevada Testing Site. He retired from Alcoa aluminum Company in 2008. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Temple and a sponsor of Bright Hope Lodge. A member of Peck's Memorial United Methodist Church, he enjoyed flying, painting water colored landscapes, and spending time with his friends at the Sky Ranch in Knoxville. George will be missed, however, as long as he is remembered, he will live on in our hearts. Preceded in death by his parents, Moody and Nellie Bible; sister, Catherine. Survivors include his beloved and devoted wife, Freida; sons, David Bible, Ken James and wife, Toshie; step-son, Shane Hunt and wife, Natalie; grandchildren, Samantha Bible, Blaise Bible, Logan Hunt, Madison Hunt; sisters, Jackie Morelock and husband, Tom, Mary Perryman, Betty Calloway and husband, David; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 in the Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Tim Jones officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery for the interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Peck's Memorial United Methodist Church, 2438 Wilkinson Pike, Maryville, TN 37803 in memory of George. Family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 983-1000.
