Gary T. Long

December 12, 1940 — November 22, 2023

Gary Thomas Long, December 12th, 1940 – November 22nd, 2023

Gary Thomas Long passed away in his sleep in the early morning hours of November 22nd.  He was born to Roberta (Henry) and Roy on December 12th, 1940.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Michael and Douglas, his granddaughter Katherine, and his son John.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Emma Jane (Jones), as well as his daughter Patricia (husband Roy), his son Timothy (wife Stephanie), his grandchildren Katie, Victoria, Summer, Corey, Zelda, Eleanor, and Evelyn, and his sisters Nancy and Beth.

Known as Tommy to his friends and family, he was a Blount County native, and—with the exception of four years in the Air Force after graduating from Greenback High School—always lived in the area.  A retiree of ALCOA, Gary (a secret ABBA fan) spent his weekends cheering on the UT Vols and mowing his yard.

Along with the pride he felt for his three children and his eight grandchildren, Gary loved being a member of the Mountain View Masonic Lodge.  He attained the 33rd°, and remained an active member of the Order until his health declined and prevented him from doing so.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee in Gary’s name.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 28th, at 1:00 P.M. at Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens.
