Fred A. Humphrey, age 91, of Knoxville passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Parkwest Hospital. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. Retiring with 22 years of service, he stormed Omaha Beach on D-Day, served in Korea, Ethiopia, and various stateside locations. After retiring from the Army, Fred began a second career in the Security Department at Maryville College where he later retired. He was a longtime member of Broadway Baptist Church, Maryville, and an avid golfer at Lambert Acres. Preceded in death by his parents, Brownlow and Stella Humphrey; wife of 50 years, Fay H. Humphrey; brothers: Floyd, Joe, and Lawrence Humphrey; sisters, Helen Taylor and Bernice McClanahan; Imogene’s sons: Tom and Robert Posey. Survivors include his wife, Imogene A. Posey; daughters, Carol Humphrey, and Jami French; son-in-law, John French; and special friend Danny Smelcer; sister, Mary Ellen Newman; brothers, Robert Humphrey; Arthur Humphrey and wife, Linda; sister-in-law, Clara Hurst; daughters-in-law, Kristin Posey and Pat Habjouqa; several nieces and nephews. Memorial service with full military honors will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 in the Smith West Chapel with Pastor Tony Collins officiating.
