Hughes, Fred Ray, age 87 of Alcoa, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Alcoa and a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He also was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company, a member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge #181 in Louisville, and Local Union 756 I.B.E.W. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verlin C. and Norma Hughes; brother, V.C. Hughes, Jr.; and sister, Loretta Forrester. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Melba Hughes; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and James R. Walker; son and daughter-in-law, Melvin Ray and Linda Hughes; grandchildren, Justin Ray Hughes, Kerri Hughes, John Hughes, Jaime Leeann Walker, Jody Andrew Walker; brother, Willard Hughes; and brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Dot Hughes. The funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2007 in Smith's Trinity Chapel with the Rev. Greg Kelly and Brother George Gilbert officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 for the interment.
