CARDWELL, FRANCES RUTH SIMERLY, 89, of Friendsville, passed peacefully to her Heavenly Home at 8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 15th, at Blount Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. She was a member of Friendsville First Baptist Church. Our Mom loved tending to her numerous flowers, for which she had a green thumb. One of her favorite things to do was attend the Tuesday quilter and craft club at her church. She was a skilled seamstress and could make beautiful quilts, ornaments and scarves. Our Mom was an excellent cook and baker, and everyone always asked for her chicken and dumplings. Christmas Eve was celebrated every year at her house, and she made it special for all of her family. Mom made several candies and cookies at Christmas, and there was always a feast. She was a very loving and caring woman and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Cardwell, parents, Homer and Pearl Simerly, and sister, Virginia Rogers. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ron (Nancy) Cardwell, Roland (Judy) Cardwell, and Randy (Gennie) Cardwell, and daughters, Debbie (Hubert) Carter and Janet (Jim) Quagliana. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael (Angie) Cardwell, Marcus Cardwell, Kim (Jim) Hughes, Angie (Steve) Garrett, Travis Carter, Megan (Cody) Patterson, Lori Cardwell, Steven (Taylor) Cardwell, and Jennifer (Josh) Dossett, along with eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her loving sister, Louise Buckingham, of Monroe, MI. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18th, at Smith Funeral Home, immediately followed by funeral services, with Dr. Mark Grubb officiating. Friends and family will gather for her burial at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19th, at Friends Church Cemetery in Friendsville, with Rev. Scott Kidd officiating.
