Foster K. Cather, 95, died Sunday, July 3rd at 11:30 pm at Blount Memorial Hospital. Foster was born in Pell City, AL in 1915. Foster was an accomplished musician playing the trumpet until 95 years old. While legally blind, he continued reading the Bible and his Sunday School lessons that he taught up until his death. As a newspaper man, he was an avid writer and has written numerous informal manuscripts about his life and times. He spent most of his adult years in Florida where he owned and operated a printing business in Dania for 47 years, until moving to Townsend in 1991. He is survived by his daughter, April Jopling of Townsend, his son and daughter-in-law, Foster K. Cather Jr. and Donna Cather of Knoxville, and his daughter Penny Baker and her husband Paul Baker of Fredericksburg, VA. His wife, Andrea DeVore Cather, and his daughter Claudia Cather, predeceased him. Surviving grandchildren include Jeff Jopling of Townsend, Jason Cather and his wife Megan of Chicago, IL, and Dawn and Paul Baker and of Fredericksburg, VA. The funeral will be held at Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church in Townsend at 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 7, 2011 visitation at 6:00 pm. Interment will be at Caylor's Chapel Cemetery at 11:00 pm on Friday, July 8, 2011. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 983-1000.
