Floyd Calvin Williams, 92, of Alcoa went home to his Lord on January 20, 2014. He was a member of First Baptist Maryville. The epitome of the greatest generation, he served as a Marine in World War II on convoys in the North Atlantic carrying lend-lease material to Europe before the US was a combatant, was aboard the USS Yorktown in the battle of the Coral Sea and when she was sunk at the Battle of Midway. He then made landings with the 4th Marine Division on Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. After the war, he served a 6-year printer's apprenticeship and then eventually was part of a partnership in a label-printing business in Los Angeles. Throughout his life and especially in retirement, he crafted beautiful things in wood, particularly tables, Windsor chairs, and Shaker boxes. He leaves his wife of 67 years, Eleanor; sons, Marc (Marcia) and Peter (Linda); daughter, Sue; granddaughters, Linda Rivas (Juan), Melissa Havran (Curtis) and Aimee Thornsberry (Ben); great-grand-children, Ramona Rivas and Elizabeth, Jeremiah Floyd and Veronica Havran. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church Maryville. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithLifeandLegacy.com.
