Flora D. Long

Flora D. Long age 68 of Knoxville, TN went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 28, 2015 while being surrounded by her loving family at Parkwest Medical Center. She was born in Maryville, TN on April 24, 1947 to Paul and Dorothy Yearout. Flora graduated from Everett High School and the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in French. She also earned her Master's Degree in English from the University of Tennessee and lacked just one hour of completing her PhD. In her early career, she taught English and French at Phi Beta Phi Elementary and Gatlinburg Pittman High School, then for over 30 years “Flo” was an influential business owner throughout the Knoxville area. Flora was a devoted wife to her husband, Gary Long, for 48 years and they attended Sevier Heights Baptist Church. She loved shopping, traveling, photography, and spending time with her five children and two grandchildren. Flora was preceded in death by her loving father; Paul Yearout. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, Gary Long of Knoxville, TN; daughters, Angela Long of Los Angeles ,CA, Selena Long (Noland) of Knoxville, TN, Alana Long (Sorensen) of San Diego, CA, and Marcedes Long of Knoxville, TN; son Matthew Long of Knoxville, TN; son-in-law Scott Sorensen and two grandchildren Kaes and Trey Sorensen of San Diego, CA; mother Dorothy Yearout of Maryville, TN; sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Robert Hair of Greenback, TN; aunt and uncle Roselle and Kenneth Teffeteller of Maryville, TN; and cousin Howard Teffeteller of Maryville, TN. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 4th, 2015 from 5:00-7:00pm at Smith Trinity Chapel – 1402 Tuckaleechee Pike Maryville, TN 37803. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM with Rev. David Morgan (a family nephew) officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 5th at Chilhowee View Cemetery – 503 Pleasant Hill Rd. Maryville, TN 37803.
