Evelyn Baker DeWees (known as “Bill” to her friends) passed away peacefully Sunday night, Nov.15, at her home in Shannondale, Maryville TN. Evelyn graduated Maryville High School in 1938. A loyal UT fan, she had gleefully watched the TN Volunteers win their 11/14 game with her granddaughter and her husband. Then, she played bridge Saturday night. Her family was so fortunate to have this active and joyful Mother and beloved Aunt with them until age 95. Preceded in death by: husband, Robert L. DeWees, Sr.; sisters, Herdage Taylor, Amanda Gamble, Virginia Baker, Betty Boring, Margaret Lawson, and Clara Granger; and brothers, Jake & Bruce Baker. A Maryville College attendee, Mrs. DeWees is survived by her son, Robert L. DeWeese, Jr., wife Charlene Bassett; son Dr. William DeWees, wife Luane; their daughter Katelyn and husband Nathan West; brother, Hugh T. Baker; and too many devoted nieces and nephews to name; special caregiver, Nancy Howard who spoiled her greatly. Family will receive friends from 10 am until 12:00 Noon on Thursday, November 19, 2015 in Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral will follow at 12 Noon. Family and friends will assemble at 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 19, 2015 for graveside service and interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Athens, TN.
